In 2008, six Coast Salish First Nations came together to form a group dedicated to aquatic resource management, information gathering and sharing, and education. In 2013, this group became known as QARS - the Q’ul-lhanumutsun Aquatic Resources Society – a non-profit society serving Cowichan Tribes, Halalt First Nation, Lyackson First Nation, Penelakut Tribe, Stz’uminus First Nation, and Ts'uubaa-asatx Nation.
