The authors of a recent peer-reviewed Perspective published in the Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Science on Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO)'s science advice system detail examples of how DFO's science advice has failed to be impartial, evidence based, transparent, and independently reviewed. The authors recommend that a truly independent fisheries-science advice body is needed in Canada to help rebuild trust in DFO and ensure that decision makers are provided credible advice.
