SCIENTISTS SAY DFO'S FISHERIES-SCIENCE ADVICE PROCESSES NEEDS IMPROVEMENT

Lead authors of recent publication in the Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Science: Gideon Mordecai, Andrew Bateman, Sean Godwin
Lead authors Dr. G. Mordecai, Dr. A. Bateman, and Dr. S. Godwin suggest in their article that a truly independent fisheries-science advice body is needed in Canada.

The authors of a recent peer-reviewed Perspective published in the Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Science on Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO)'s science advice system detail examples of how DFO's science advice has failed to be impartial, evidence based, transparent, and independently reviewed. The authors recommend that a truly independent fisheries-science advice body is needed in Canada to help rebuild trust in DFO and ensure that decision makers are provided credible advice.
